The IT Department of Morgan International Community School consists of the teaching section and the Information system support section. The department hopes to promote a technologically rich teaching and learning environment that provides opportunities for students to develop IT skills in order to achieve academic excellence and to become confident users of IT resources. The department runs a practical-oriented ICT Curriculum at the 6th, 7th and 8th Grades. IGCSE ICT and IGCSE Computer Science are offered at the 9th and 10th Grades while in International Baccalaureate (IB) - Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) and IB- Computer Science (CS) are offered at the 11th and 12th Grades.

Cambridge ICT Starters

Secondary 1 (6th, 7th & 8th Grade) ICT course is designed to allow students to have the skills to analyze, design, program and evaluate ICT systems and solutions. In the course, students will learn media-making techniques and the foundations of programme coding through Scratch Programming Environment. Students will also be introduced to the Microsoft Office applications as well as design process of website using HTML language.

IGCSE Information and Communication Technology

IGCSE ICT (0417)

is a two-year programme which seeks to imbibe in students the skills to design and implement ICT solutions for various purposes. IGCSE ICT enables learners to analyse, design, implement, test and evaluate ICT systems and discuss their impact on our society.

IGCSE Computer Science

IGCSE Computer Science (0478) is the study of the foundational principles and practices of computation and computational thinking and their application in the design and development of computer systems. Learning computational thinking involves learning to program, that is to write computer code, because this is the means by which computational thinking is expressed. IGCSE Computer Science enables learners to develop an interest in computing and to gain confidence in computational thinking and programming.

IB-DP Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS)

IB ITGS is a rigorous two-year programme with concentration on information technology and its impact on our society. Students will consider a broad spectrum of topics relating to the social and ethical impacts that technology use has, and will focus on developing conceptual understanding, critical awareness and relevant terminology use in the specific context of how technology increasingly continues to affect our daily lives from a global perspective.

IB-DP Computer Science

IB Computer Science prepares students so that they are aware of how computer scientists work and communicate with each other and with other stakeholders in the successful development and implementation of IT solutions. While the methodology used to solve problems in computer science may take a wide variety of forms, the course emphasizes the need for both a theoretical and practical approach.

Facilities

The department can boast of a media center, the state of the art computer labs fitted with e-Instruction Touchboard, laptops, Printers, Scanners, Camera, and relatively stable internet access. The department also provides ipads to all students in the 9th and 10th Grades. The School has actively pursued the integration of ICT into teaching and learning primarily through its learning with ICT (LWICT) model. The model focuses on five key areas:

1. The provision of essential ICT infrastructure within schools
2. The provision of relatively stable internet access within schools
3. Continuous professional development for teachers in ICT
4. Integrating ICT within the curriculum to imbibe students with critical and creative thinking
5. Imbibing in students a sense of responsibility and ethics with the use of ICT
